Mindfulness is, at its simplest, an awareness of the present moment – “wherever you are, there you are.” It is also recognised as a highly effective practice for wellbeing, very apt in these difficult times. We all intuitively understand that when the mind is still and free from worry and distraction, we can become more receptive and creative. Illustrated with a variety of images from his extensive portfolio, Ken will explain how photography of any kind can be enhanced by mindful practice, by letting go of expectations and judgemental habits, and how being with your camera can be a therapeutic pursuit in itself. His talk, And Now For Something Completely Different does what it says on the tin and displays David's eccentric style, sense of humour and disregard for the 'rules'. In order to maintain the integrity of our print competitions Dave and Ann Rayers have put their heads together with Steve Lenaerts to make a plan which is as follows. First, the number of print league competitions will be reduced from 5 to 4 and will not start until Monday 12th April 2021 by which time we hope to be able to meet physically in our hall. Handing in will be three weeks before on Monday 22nd March 2021. If the Club continues to work remotely, at least for the start of these competitions we still plan to have the prints judged. We may, therefore, be asking you to submit your prints for the first two competitions by 22nd March 2021 to a local address of a committee member. It is essential that prints are labelled correctly for each competition. Ann will collect these and compile the competitions. If you wish you can deliver prints for all four competitions on the 22nd March 2021. In addition you must submit a PDI version of each of your prints to Photoentry. Steve Lenaerts and Joan Tucker are liaising with the judges as to just how and where the prints will be judged if we cannot meet in the hall. It is our intention that your prints will be judged on an illuminated easel in the usual way. This will take place at a suitable venue with just a few organisers and the judge present. Dave Rayers has offered to record the judge’s comments should he/she wish to have a copy. On the programmed date of the competition the PDI versions will be shown by Zoom with the judge being live on the night armed with their pre-decided comments and scores. The programme for January to June 2021 will be published on the website once Steve and Joan have finalised the dates and flexible arrangements with judges. Let’s hope that we don’t need these more complicated arrangements but we were keen to have an agreed plan in place for January – June 2021 so that you can use the winter months to start printing and mounting! Most importantly, stay safe and well everyone. 23 September 2020Croydon Camera Club Centenary CompetitionCongratulations to ‘Team Carshalton’. We participated in Croydon Camera Club’s Centenary Challenge who had extended the invitation of this annual event to 8 clubs. At the beginning of the year we submitted our entry of 4 prints and 4 PDIs as requested only to find that Covid-19 postponed the event. Of course the re-scheduled competition had to become 8 PDIs and we decided to simply switch the 4 prints to PDIs. The competition was held on Monday 21st September via Zoom. Seven of us attended the Zoom competition but unfortunately this couldn’t be extended to the whole club because of Croydon’s 100 participant limit. It was a very exciting match and we led all the way to nearly the end when Beckenham came from behind and pipped us to the winning post by half a point (but we did beat Old Coulsdon!). Particular congratulations must go to John Gribble who got a 10 for his adorable harvest mouse. The results can be found here and the pictures can be viewed here. 21 September 2020Lee MillerHilary Roberts, curator from the Imperial War Museum will present her talk about the extraordinary Lee Miller https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86590950370?pwd=SVZldVVNRVZCVndFL3hNdXpMR0JkUT09 Meeting ID: 865 9095 0370 Click here to see Notices Archive 2019-2020 |
